Obermoschel

Obermoschel is the smallest town in the Palatinate. It lies between Rockhausen and Bad Kreuznach in thunder mountain in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Alsenz - Obermoschel, which has its headquarters in the town of Alsenz. Obermoschel is a nationally recognized tourist and reported as a basic center in accordance with state planning.

Geography

Obermoschel is located in the north- Palatinate mountains north of the Palatinate Forest. It is framed by the four mountains Steinhübel, Selberg, Moschellandsberg and Kahl Forster height. On the Moschellandsberg is also the ruins of Landsberg.

History

On September 7, 1349 Obermoschel was knighted by King Charles IV to the city and received market rights.

The local railway Alsenz - Obermoschel was opened on October 1, 1903 and joined the site with Alsenz and the local Alsenztalbahn. Due to the low demand, the railway has already been closed again in 1935.

In 1943, already in the Middle Ages known silver - mercury ore Moschellandsbergit (formerly Hard silver ) was named after its place of discovery and recognized Moschellandsberg. In the pit oven at Moschellandsberg an unknown mineral was found in 1984 and 1985 recognized as Moschelit of the IMA.

Viniculture

Obermoschel has a long winemaking tradition and part of the wine region Nahe. But today there are only a few wineries. The vines grow mostly on hard to farm on steep slopes, contribute their volcanic slate floors to a specific character of the wines. On Selberg there is a wine trail.

Leisure and sports facilities

In Obermoschel the inhabitants are various sports facilities available. These include a sports court, a clubhouse, tennis courts and indoor swimming pool and sauna in the Burg-Hotel Circle. Structures

On the Moschellandsberg is the ruined castle of Landsberg. In the city several old buildings have been preserved. The Protestant church was built from 1785 to 1789. The Catholic Church of the Assumption dates from the year 1866.
