Obersaasheim

Obersaasheim is a commune with 1016 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. It belongs to the district of Colmar, Canton of Neuf- Brisach and community association Pays de Brisach.

Geography

The municipality is located in Obersaasheim the Upper Rhine Plain, approximately four kilometers southwest of Breisach am Rhein.

History

In documents from the year 768, the settlement is mentioned under the name of Saxons, even Saxen en anglais. Later it was assumed in the Vosges of the abbey of Munster. Later names were Saxons to 1316, Sachs home around 1517 and Sass home to 1576th In 1683 already existed, the name " Obersaasheim ". The village church was built from 1772 to 1777 and the school and community center from 1835 to 1838.
