Obersimten

Obersimten is a municipality in the southwest, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Pirmasens country.

Geography

Obersimten lies to the west of the Palatinate Forest between Pirmasens in the Northeast and Vinningen in the southwest.

History

The place belonged to the rule Lviv, which in 1570 was up to the extinction of the line belonged to the counts of Zweibrücken- Bitsch, then came to the Counts of Hanau -Lichtenberg and 1736 to the Landgrave of Hesse -Darmstadt.

On 7 June 1969, the church lost the village Niedersimten to the city of Pirmasens. On the same day the town was renamed Simten Obersimten.

The local council in Obersimten consists of twelve council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 of personalized proportional representation, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

The blazon of the arms is: "Through silver Göbel section of red and green and green divided, top right three golden rafters, top left, slanting golden crosier beseitet from the golden letters A and S and below a silver plow ".

The rafters come from originally the coat of arms of Hanau- Lichtenberg.
