Oberstadt

Upper Town is a municipality in the district of Hildburghausen in Frankish dominated the south of Thuringia. It belongs to the administrative community Feldstein. The administrative headquarters are in the town Themar.

Location

Upper Town lies on the regional road in 2633 from Grub to Marisfeld and at the foot of the southern slope of the Thuringian Forest in the direction Themar. Over half of the corridor is wooded and is part of the Thuringian Forest. The other half is favorably influenced from the Schweinfurt climate area. To the south runs the country road 2628th

History

In 1317, the village was first mentioned. Rule default, the location in the Official Themar first belonged to the county of Henneberg, after 1583 to various Saxon duchies and 1826-1918 of Saxe -Meiningen. In 1920 he came to Thuringia.

Buildings

Church

The first church is busy for 1380. A bridge subsequently there were 1608. This was destroyed by fire in 1885. The current, neo-Gothic style church was consecrated in 1887.

Water Castle

Once possessed upper town a moated castle. This castle was awarded in 1380 as a fief of Count Henneberg to Messrs. Kiessling. In 1397 the castle was destroyed as a robber's den. The bower is still preserved. She made a water tower was built in the 15th and 16th century, redesigned at this moated castle later.
