Obertraun

Obertraun is a municipality in Upper Austria's Salzkammergut region in the district of Gmunden Traun quarter with 732 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013). The municipality is located in the judicial district of Bad Ischl.

Since 1997 part of the area around Obertraun and Hallstatt, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Geography

Obertraun is located on 513 m altitude in Traun quarter at Lake Hallstatt. The extension is from north to south 13.4 kilometers, 11.6 kilometers from west to east. The total area is 88.4 km ², 15.5% of the area is forested. Within the area are the Hirzkarseen and Koppenwinkellacke.

History

Originally in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria lying, was the place since the 12th century the Duchy of Austria. Dachsteinhöhlen
