Obertrum

Obertrum is a market town in the province of Salzburg in Salzburg-Umgebung in Austria with 4573 inhabitants ( 1 January 2013).

Geography

The municipality is located in the north of Flachgau in Salzburg at the south end of Lake Obertrum (upper part of Mattsee ). Until the end of May 1923, the village belonged to the district court Mattsee, since June 1, 1923 she is part of the judicial district of Neumarkt in Salzburg.

History

The oldest known place name falls in the year 1143 as " DRUMA " which means as much as "upper end of the lake basin ." In prehistoric times, the three Trumer Lakes were connected to a lake ( the Mattsee ) and findings indicate that they have been used as a waterway.

Until 1398, the diocese was Passau was landlord of the Mattsee, the sole landowner of the place top strand. 1398 was the place to Archbishopric of Salzburg, which was secularized in 1803 and converted into the Electorate of Salzburg. With this it came to Austria in 1805, 1810 and 1816, the Kingdom of Bavaria finally to Austria. Ecclesiastical parish belonged to the upper run is still up in 1807 to the diocese of Passau.

The coat of arms of the municipality is: " Argent, a red wolf in the throat and a blue fish with his front paws a natural colored gestümmelten road holding. "

The fish symbolizes the location of the village on the lake; the piece of branch (top strand ) alludes to the place name.

Triathlon

Since 2010 takes place in July of Trumer Triathlon held (1,9 km swimming, 90 km cycling and 21.1 km running). From year to year, the Trumer Triathlon enjoys more and more participants and visitors and is already a fixed part of the Austrian Triathlon event calendar. With five different competitions over different distances on a weekend (Friday to Sunday) a corresponding distance is offered for triathlon beginner, triathlon professionals.
