Oberweg is a municipality with 576 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district Mur Valley in Styria. The municipality is located in the judicial district Jews castle. From 1 January 2015 it has joined forces framework of the Styrian municipality structural reform with the communities of Jews Castle and Reifling, the new church will retain the name "Jewish fortress ".

Geography

Geographical Location

The town is located south of Oberweg Jews castle. The municipal area stretches along the Oberweger Bach on the slopes of the Alps Seetaler. Highest point in the municipality is the sharp corner ( 2,364 m). The municipal area there are also parts of the training area Seetaler Alpe.

The neighboring municipalities are, in the north clockwise beginning: Sankt Peter ob Jews, Judenburg, Reifling, Sankt Wolfgang - Kienberg, shelter, Kulm am Zirbitz, St. Marein bei Neumarkt, Sankt Lorenzen bei Scheifling.

Community structure

The municipality consists of the two cadastral, at the same time the only places, Oberweg (530 inhabitants) and Ossach (46).

History

1334 for the first time Ossach was mentioned as a land designation in a document, a 1443 Osser whether Jews castle. 1559 to 1600 there were on the Judenburgeralm iron ore mining. For a long time just a collection of farmhouses, Oberweg was from the late 19th century a popular residential area for Jews burger. This is demonstrated by Gründerzeithäuser and houses of the 1920s and 1930s, traditional styles.

The municipality Oberweg was built in 1849 /50.

Coat of arms

On 1 September 2009, the municipality is entitled to a coat of arms to perform the following appearance: Between red flanks and three pole as provided golden wings spearheads in blue a golden rooted and double- leafed Speikpflanze.

Population

The municipality had 2001 685 inhabitants according to the census. 98.8 % of the population possess Austrian citizenship. For the Roman Catholic Church to 79.9 % of the population profess the Protestant Church 2.8%, 15.3 % have no religious confession.

Economy and infrastructure

According to Census of 2001, there are 20 workplaces with 96 employees in the community as well as 264 and 162 commuter commuters. There are 17 agricultural and forestry holdings (including 13 in the main acquisition ), which together manage 885 ha ( 1999).

Policy

The council consists of nine members and is since the municipal elections 2010 mandates the following parties together:

  • 5 SPÖ

The community is dominated by the Social Democrats since 1960, since 1999 Johann Taferner is mayor.
