Oberweis, Germany

Oberweis is a municipality in the district of Bitburg -Prüm, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Bitburg -Land. Oberweis is a nationally recognized tourist.

Geography

The place is located in the south-west Eifel, about 10 km west of the county town of Bitburg at the Prüm, both at the connection Trier- Bitburg, as well as New Castle - Vianden. The height measurement point for Oberweis is 240 m above sea level. NN, 302 hectares of the municipal area is wooded.

At Oberweis also includes the residential places Birkenhof, Buchenhof, courtyard, Ludeshof and Unterbedhard.

History

The first documentary mention experiencing the Oberweis in the 798 /799 as a deed of gift to the monastery of Echternach. Oberweis was called at that time knowledge of the Prüm or in the deed in Latin called knowledge quod est super fluvio Situm Prumia. Already in the 9th century Oberweis is described inherent in Bitburger documents as a parish.

Parish council

The local council in Oberweis consists of twelve council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

  • Mosaic floor from the Roman villa. This is, however, in the house in Bitburg Beda and in parts of the Rhenish State Museum Trier.
