Oberwil

Oberwil (BL ) is a municipality in the district of Arlesheim in the canton of Basel -Country in Switzerland.

Geography

Oberwil located 5 km from Basel to 316 m asl Leimental on the western slope of the brother wood. Its neighboring villages are Biel- Benken and the French Neuwiller in the west, in the south Therwil, Reinach in the southeast, and Bottmingen Binningen in the north, Allschwil in the northwest. The area of the municipality is 788 hectares, of which 45% agricultural land, 20 % forest, 34 % residential area and 1% non-productive area.

History

The municipal area of Oberwil they found remains from the Bronze, Iron and Roman times and early medieval pottery kilns. Around 1100 we first heard of Obervvilre. Traffic

Oberwil received with the opening of the narrow- Birsigtalbahn in 1887 a rail connection.
