Obestatin

Obestatin is a hormone which is involved in the regulation of food intake, by counteracting the effect of ghrelin appetizing.

Education and effects

Obestatin is a peptide hormone that is released as its physiological opponent of ghrelin in the stomach from the precursor peptide prepro - ghrelin. Here, the emptying of the stomach is retarded, reducing the mobility of the duodenum. Maybe it plays a role in the development of obesity, has shown in animal experiments only a small effect on the development of body weight. Whether it is therefore suitable as a drug for the treatment of overweight, is not entirely clear but may be doubted.
