The Munizip Óbidos ( officially: Municipio de Óbidos ) is founded in 1697 by the Portuguese conquerors city in Brazil today. It is located at the narrowest point of the entire Amazon in Pará between Belém and the state capital of the state of Amazonas Manaus. The river is only about 2 miles wide, but still 93 feet deep. It bears the same name as Óbidos in Portugal.

According to the 2010 census by the Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística ( IBGE ) Óbidos had called a total population of 49 333 inhabitants, the Obidenser. Published by the IBGE annual estimates for 2013 indicate an increase to 50 171 inhabitants, thus Óbidos is one of the 40 largest cities in the state of Pará. The urban and rural area covers an area of ​​28,021 km ².

Óbidos is the seat of the Catholic Diocese of Óbidos.

Management

After the local elections in 2012 was Mário Henrique de Sousa Guerreiro of the Partido do Movimento Democrático Brasileiro ( PMDB ) for the term 2013-2016 to the city prefect, the mayor, was elected.
