History

A grave mound Fund at Großbergham already implies a settlement of the area in the Stone Age. In the Celtic Hallstatt period first roads through the municipal area on which salt and Bernstein were transported ( cf. Güldene salt road). Similarly, a plurality of intersecting Roman roads are busy for the municipality. A 1814 cemetery found Roman stone (4th century ) speaks of an adjudicatory prefect, which may suggest that Obing has been Roman Court station.

After being destroyed by the Huns themselves Bavarians settled, for a cemetery in the upper village and terraced tombs in Talham and in Pfaffing give testimony (6th century ). From about 716 about 20 houses are occupied for Obing ( Opinga ), as well as in the Breves Notitiae and Indiculus the Archbishop Arno of Salzburg ( 788 ).

When Obing for the Christianization is supposed to begin, is difficult to answer. The grave finds and the typical early Christian patronage of St. Lawrence speak of an early mission. The size of the parish parish in 1195 indicates that he has existed before the foundation of the monastery Seeon in 994. To 985 is occupied by a " Herrant de Opingin ".

For 1165 to 1174 / 1182 first pastor of Obing is known by name. His name was Henry of Geren / welcome. No later than the Falkensteiner erected on the castle hill known as a lock which went to Prince Ludwig of Bavaria in 1247.

1491 newly built in the Gothic style parish church of St. Lawrence was consecrated. 1868 to 1871 it was enlarged.

Obing was a closed Hofmark Seeon abbey, which was repealed in 1803 with the monastery. The first planned political appreciation - the relocation of the District Court by Kling Obing - was dropped after the king heard the costs that would cause the renovation of the castle Obinger. So the castle was aborted instead.

Obing was in the course of administrative reform in Bavaria in 1818 an independent political community.

The administrative community Obing was established in 1978 as part of local government reform.
