Object access method

Object access method is an access mode in z / OS, which is designed to store a large number of files (up to 256 MB), such as medical images. OAM is an optional component of DFSMS.

Differences to VSAM are eg:

  • OAM datasets have no fixed record structure; pure byte streams.
  • OAM dataset is not cataloged directly, but are stored in OAM collections, which in turn are cataloged. This is the number of entries in the catalog kept small and an overflow of the catalog can be prevented.

OAM can be used in conjunction with DB2.
