Obora (Tachov District)

Obora ( German animal garden ) is a municipality with 96 inhabitants ( 1 January 2004) in the Czech Republic. It is located 6 km north- west of Tachov at an altitude of 620 m asl in the Upper Palatinate Forest ( Český les ).

Below the village the Mies is dammed in the drinking water reservoir Lučina.

With the neighboring German town Baernau there is a border crossing near the deserted village Pavlův Studenec.

History

The first mention of animal garden dates from the year 1660. During the Tachauer rule under Baron Johann Philipp Husmann here an enclosure was built with cabin to 1650 Forest house was built. After the takeover of power by the Windisch- Graetz family, the enclosure has been greatly expanded. Up to 350 pcs big game, up to 130 fallow deer and up to 50 wild boars were held.

The place had grown to 1722 to 21 estate. First, the pastoral care was perceived by the deanery in Tachau, from 1787 belonged to the inhabitants of the parish animal garden on fire.

The number of houses grew by the year 1930 on 76 409 inhabitants, in 1939 lived in Thier garden, including its hamlet Paul hut even 445 people.

Community structure

For the church today Obora the left of Mies hamlet on Dolni Výšina heard (low Ringelberg ). The municipal area, which includes large areas of woodland to the Bavarian border, the abandoned after 1945 places and living places Dolni Obora are ( Wallerhof ), Horni Obora ( Flötz ) Pavlová Huť ( Paul hut) and Pavlův Studenec ( Paul Brunn ) - also known as Pavlův studenec 2 designates.
