Obrenovac

Obrenovac ( Serbian Cyrillic Обреновац; German Obrenowatz ) is a city and municipality in Serbia.

The city belongs to the metropolitan area of ​​the capital, Belgrade, and is located about 30 km southwest near the rivers Sava and Kolubara. According to the 2002 census, the city of 23,600 and the municipality of 70 975 inhabitants.

History

The settlement of the Obrenovac region began in pre-Christian times. In the 9th century the immigrant Slavs settled here. During the Ottoman rule over the Balkans was known as Palež. In the time of the Austria -Hungarian occupation, the city was named Zweibrücken. After the Second Serbian Uprising, the town was named in 1859 after the Serbian royal house Obrenović.

Economy
