Observation post

Observation posts are facilities for direct observation of a site. They are set to high-altitude terrain and were once practically the only means of observation. Today, more electronic aids are common.

Observation posts were formerly of great importance for large-scale Einschließungslinien as 1870 before the fortress of Metz and Paris before.

In the Russian army in the early 20th century were even transportable observation towers used (System Wildgrube ). The height of these towers be dismantled was 25 m, the weight of the total material was 1600 kg. A command of 16 trained for this service people needed 15 minutes to build and 10 minutes for the dismantling of the tower. The horizon was up to 15 km.
