Obsteig

Obsteig is a municipality with 1206 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Imst ( district court Silz ) of the federal state of Tyrol ( Austria ).

Geography

Obsteig is the westernmost municipality of the Mieminger plateau, above the Upper Inn Valley at the foot of Mieminger Mountains. The community consists of scattered villages and hamlets on the plateau. At 1119 m above sea Holzleitensattel in the west the plateau drops steeply into the Gurgltal. The main town Obsteig lies along a constructed road.

The area around Obsteig is a popular hiking and excursions; also has Obsteig in the winter numerous ski trails and winter hiking trails.

Culture and sights

The gorge between Castle Obsteig and Fronhausen, located below the road, once guarded the transport route that led up by Motz, and served in the television series Doctor Berg as "Royal Sun Stone ". The 25 m high waterfall gorge of Bach can be reached from the castle in a few minutes.

Personalities

The north pole rider Johann Haller (1844-1906) was kk Forester in Obsteig and is buried there.
