Obzor

Obzor [ obzɔr ] ( Обзор Bulgarian ) is a town in southeast Bulgaria, on the Black Sea, in the Oblast Burgas, in the town of Nessebar, near the town of Byala.

Name

The word " Obzor " means in Bulgarian: panoramic view or overview, as the city is situated on the eastern slopes of the Balkan Mountains, which slope here to the coast, and you have a wide panoramic view of the entire area and the sea from the mountains on the outskirts.

History

Already more than 3000 years ago the Thracians settled here, which gave it the name Navlahos. Circa 1000 BC on the same spot, the Greeks, the city of Heliopolis ( City of the Sun dt; → Greek colonization ).

Later, the Romans gave the name Obzor Iovis Templum ( Temple of Jupiter ) after they establish in the city of Temple of Jupiter. By Templum Iovis ran the Black Sea coastal road, which became known as Via pontica among the Romans.

In the Middle Ages was located above Obsor the Bulgarian fortress Kozjak.

After the conquest of Bulgaria by the Turks in the first place was the Turkish name Gjoslu ( beauty ), and since the 16th century Gjoseken, which in Turkish means the same as the Bulgarian word Obzor. In 1936 the town was officially renamed in Obzor by the Turkish name of the place was translated into Bulgarian.

For centuries, Obzor just a small fishing village. In the 20s of the 20th century continued here - in one of the first resorts on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast - the tourism one. Visible to the beautifully designed holiday villas from the 1920s and 1930s in the Ulitsa Tschernomorska ( German: Black Sea road ), which runs directly behind the beach at the seashore. Most of these historic cottages with direct sea view in urgent need of renovation.

Spa

In 1984 Obzor received its town charter. Meanwhile Obzor has become an attractive spa town and tourist center, whose peculiarity is the mixture of mountain air and sea air. Therefore, the site also be attributed to climatic healing effects.

Obzor has an eight- kilometer stretch of beach, which is one of the longest beaches in Bulgaria.
