Occidentalism

The word has Occidentalism in the humanities two diametrically opposite meanings.

1 In accordance with and as a replica on the coined by Edward Said Orientalism term is called Occidentalism an ideology of hatred against the West, against Western social structures and values. In this sense the term of Ian Buruma and Avishai Margalit was coined. You can find this phenomenon, among others in German Romanticism, the western conservative cultural criticism, when Islamists and anti-imperialist left.

2 Some postcolonial theorists call Occidentalism as a contrast ethnocentrism postulated Western values ​​as universal and devalues ​​other cultures.
