Ocean County, New Jersey

Ocean County is a county located in the state of New Jersey. In the 2000 census, the county had 510 916 inhabitants and a population density of 310 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Toms River.

Geography

The second largest county in the state has an area of ​​2372 square kilometers, of which 724 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Monmouth County, Atlantic County and Burlington County and is located directly on the Atlantic Ocean.

History

The county was created in 1850 by a division of Monmouth County. The initial focus of the work was in this rural area, agriculture and fisheries. Later, tourism is one of the pillars of the economy.
