Ocean County, New Jersey
Ocean County is a county located in the state of New Jersey. In the 2000 census, the county had 510 916 inhabitants and a population density of 310 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Toms River.
Geography
The second largest county in the state has an area of 2372 square kilometers, of which 724 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Monmouth County, Atlantic County and Burlington County and is located directly on the Atlantic Ocean.
History
The county was created in 1850 by a division of Monmouth County. The initial focus of the work was in this rural area, agriculture and fisheries. Later, tourism is one of the pillars of the economy.
In the early fifties of the 20th century were also located in this County suburbs of major cities in New Jersey and New York. This was facilitated by road construction projects such as the construction of the Garden State Parkway. This meant that this County was the fastest growing in the state for decades. The population grew accordingly, from 37,675 in 1940 to 510 916 in 2000.

According to the census of 2000, there were 510 916 people in the county. There were 200 402 households and 137 876 families. The population density was 310 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 93.05 % White, 2.99 % African American, 0.14 % Native American, 1.28 % Asian, 0.02 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 1.24 % from other races groups; 1.29% were descended from two or more races. 5.02 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 200 402 households out of which 28.10 % have children under the age of 18 living with them. 56.40 % were married couples living together, 9.20 % had a female householder with no husband. 31.20% were non-families. 27.00% of all households and 16.50% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 3.06.
Based on the county the population was spread out with 23.30 % under the age of 18, 6.60 % from 18 to 24, 26.00% from 25 to 44 years, 21.90 % between 45 and 64 years and 22.20% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 90.40 males, 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.40 males.
The median income for a household was $ 46,443, and the median income for a family was $ 56,420. Males have a median income of $ 44,822, women $ 30,717. The per capita income was $ 23,054. 7.00 % of the population and 4.80 % of families are below the poverty line. 10.00 % of those under age 18 and 5.60 % were 65 years or older.
