Parish

Ocho Rios is a town in the north of Jamaica. The city is located in Middlesex County in the Parish of Saint Ann. In 2010, Ocho Rios had a population of 9,583 people. The name Ocho Rios comes from the Spanish and literally means " Eight Rivers".

Geography

Ocho Rios is located in a long bay, which is divided into several small bays. At the western end of the city is the White River Bay, which opens in the same river. Behind a small promontory begins the Sand Beach Bay, the very straight runs from west to east. The adjacent Mallards Bay eats deeper than the other bays in the country. Here are most of the hotels and the marina. At the eastern end of the city, the Bay Ochriis divided one. There are also the Dunn 's River Falls, one of the biggest tourist attractions of the island. The name Ocho Rios is misleading, since only three instead of the name by then unknown eight river discharge into the bay. The city is surrounded by dense jungle.

The nearest major cities are located west of Tower Isle and the eastern Steer Town.

History

On October 30, 1657 Battle of Ocho Rios took place. Spanish troops tried to retake the island, which in 1655 lost to the English crown under Cristóbal Arnaldo Isasi. The attack was, however, successfully repelled.

The place was until the early 19th century, a small fishing village to Ocho Rios a focal point for tourists, mainly from the U.S. and Europe, was. Some UB40 albums were produced in the studio Coyaba Park, a paradise garden on Ocho Rios. Even Mick Jagger and Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones have a house in the mountains above Ochi respectively.

Ocho Rios was in the movie James Bond - 007 Dr. No the home of Miss Taro, the girlfriend of Bond opponent Dr Julius No.

Even in the eighth James Bond film titled Live and Let Die was filmed, among other Ocho Rios. Locations were the Jamaica Safari Village and the Hotel San Souci.

The English rock band 10cc is dedicated Ocho Rios a song named " From Rochdale To Ocho Rios ".
