Ochtersum

Ochtersum is a municipality in the district in the East Frisian Holtriem Witt mouth, Lower Saxony. The community had in 2004 about 950 inhabitants and covers a total area of ​​10.82 square kilometers.

Location

Ochtersum located ten kilometers west of Esen along Route 6 between Holt and guest Utarp.

History

The first written mention dates back to the year 1411. St. Materniani Church Westochtersum was built in 1260-1270. Before the damming northern areas could reach up to the church at high tide the North Sea.

From the former Dutch windmill tower today is only the fuselage. It was erected in 1911 in place of a windmill.

The council chose the council member Franz Pfaff ( FWG ) for honorary mayor for the current parliamentary term.

The turnout in the local elections of 2011 were at 53.20 % just above the Lower Saxony average of 52.5 %. For comparison - in the previous local elections on 10 September 2006, the turnout was 59.38 %.
