Octavian Nemescu

Octavian Nemescu ( born March 29, 1940 in Paşcani ) is a Romanian composer.

Nemescu studied from 1956 to 1963 at the National University of Music Bucharest, Mihail Jora composition with, harmony with Paul Constantinescu and orchestration at Alexandru Pascanu and Anatol Vieru. In 1972 he took part in the Darmstadt Summer Courses. From 1971 to 1978 he taught music analysis and counterpoint at the Transylvania University of Braşov. Until 1990 in Iaşi, he was at art school " George Enescu" professor of counterpoint, harmony and music history, since he is a professor of composition at the National Music University of Bucharest. He is the father of the Romanian film director Cristian Nemescu ( 1979-2006 ).

For his compositions, he was awarded the Aaron Copland Prize, several times the price of the Romanian Composers Union, two prizes at the Concours International de Musique Electroacoustique de Bourges (1980 and 1982 ), the Prize of the Romanian Academy of Arts and Sciences ( 1981) and the Prize of the International Confederation for Electroacoustic Music (ICEM, 1985).
