Oculus

A Oculus (Greek ὀπαῖον for " smoke hole", plural Opaia ) is a round opening at the top of a dome. Other designations are dome eyes or plain eye. Especially since the Renaissance, the Oculus is usually covered by a lantern which drops less and more diffused light into the interior, but it protects against weather conditions.
