Ocumare del Tuy is a Venezuelan city, administrative headquarters of the district Tomás Lander, in the state of Miranda. The city is located in the Tuy Valleys. 2005 Ocumare del Tuy had about 166 112 inhabitants.
History
The Parroquia del Tuy of Ocumare was founded in 1693.
Ocumare del Tuy had 4692 inhabitants in 1810. There were many slaves, but also immigrants from the Spanish mainland and from the Canary Islands.
Here several battles of the Wars of Independence took place. On 11 February 1814, the Spanish army occupied under the direction of Francisco Rosete and Boves the village. The slaves were on the side of the Spaniards and many people killed. About 300 people were killed there. It was only on February 14, 1814 José Ribas Feliz could drive the troops of Rosete and Boves.
Between 1904 and 1927, was Ocumare capital of the state of Miranda.
Policy
Since 2008, the mayor of the PSUV politician Julio Cesar Marcano. He won with 69.92 % of the vote against 27.92 % for the candidate of the opposition. In 2010, 66.95 % of voters gave their vote for the candidate of the PSUV.
