In the district of Altenberg was from the mid-11th century on a rocky spine above the river Dhünn a castle that was to become the namesake for the entire region. This castle was called the Castle Mountains. In the period following the noble family living there named after the castle, the Count of Berg. In 1133, Count Adolf II the castle to the Cistercian order. At this point, the Berger had already built with Schloss Burg on the Wupper a new headquarters, this was wearing the name "New Mountain ". But since the money seal next to the blazon, the year is 1617, the stamp is apparently a recut of this year for an older stamp from 1556.
