Odessa (Bee Gees album)

Odessa is the title of an album by the Bee Gees.

History

The album Odessa applies content and musically the most complex work of Bee Gees. On a double album the Bee Gees tell the stories of immigrants to the United States. The album was therefore often referred to as The American Opera. Musically, it's more rock than previous albums, but still contains ballads, for which the Bee Gees have become famous in the previous years.

Already during the recording of the album it came to a dispute between the Bee Gees brothers Barry and Robin Gibb. Having received preference over Robins Lamplight when deciding on the first single Barrys song First of May, Robin left the band. He was only 18 months later, back to the Bee Gees. The next album, Cucumber Castle is therefore the only album that was added Barry and Maurice Gibb without her brother Robin.

In the album charts in the UK reached the 10th Place and in the U.S. on the 20th place as the highest ranking. In Germany, the album was released on the 4th place on the album charts.
