Odette de Champdivers

Odette de Champdivers (* 1385 in Burgundy, † 1424 in Paris ), called La Petite Reine, was mistress of the French king Charles VI. and previously by his brother, Louis de Valois, duc d' Orléans.

Life

Odette de Champdivers, daughter of Odin de Champdivers, Maitre de comptes, was called by her contemporaries La Petite Reine. Queen Isabeau de Bavaria led her into the bed of the French king, to relieve themselves from the violence of her insane husband ( he suffered from schizophrenia). According to contemporary reports, she represented for years every night the queen in their clothes without the insane Charles VI. this swindle ever noticed. Meanwhile, Queen Isabeau found solace in the arms of her brother Louis, a former lover of Odette. From the union with the King two illegitimate daughters were born. Marguerite was brought to her mother's death to the French court, and in 1427, legitimized by her half-brother, King Charles VII.

Odette's brother Henri de Champdivers married Jeanne de Toulongeon (1382-1419), which since the battle of Agincourt (1415 ) widowed sister of Andre and Antoine de Toulongeon.
