Odin (satellite)

Odin is a space telescope for astronomical and aeronomische investigations in the radio and sub-millimeter range.

The satellite is a project under Swedish management with investments from Canada, France and Finland. The satellite was launched on 20 February 2001 with a start -I rocket from Svobodny in Siberia. Odin is located in a sun-synchronous orbit, resulting in about 600 km above Earth's poles. Originally Odin was designed on two -year life, but is now more than 6 years in operation.

The antenna diameter is 1.1 m. Observations are possible in a frequency band 486.1 to 503.9 GHz, three overlapping bands of 541.0 to 580.4 GHz, and a band from 118.25 to 119.25 GHz. This particular analyzes of water and oxygen in the interstellar medium are possible.
