Odo of Metz

Odo of Metz was a Frankish builder who lived at the time of Charlemagne. On his behalf out he built the Chapel of Aachen royal palace, now the central building of the Aachen Cathedral, consecrated in 798 and through which he gained notoriety.

Here Odo is only known by an inscription, which in turn is transmitted in a manuscript collection dating from the 9th or 10th century.

In addition to the Palatine Chapel in Aachen, he is said to have been responsible for the oratory of Germigny -des- Prés, which was completed in 806.
