Ödön Pártos

Odon Pártos ( born October 1, 1907 in Budapest, † July 6, 1977 in Tel Aviv) was an Israeli composer of Hungarian origin.

Pártos studied in Budapest at Jeno Hubay and Zoltán Kodály. He was concertmaster in Lucerne, 1928-1933 in Berlin and from 1935 to 1937 in Baku. Then he emigrated to Israel, where he was principal violist of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1951 he became head of the Israel Academy of Music, in 1961 professor at the University of Tel Aviv.

He composed symphonic sets, a symphonic elegy and a symphonic fantasy, numerous concertos, including two viola concertos and a Yehudi Menuhin dedicated Violin Concerto, an Arabesque for oboe and chamber orchestra, which was premiered by Heinz Holliger, Maquammat for Flute and Strings, a psalm setting, a Fantasy on Yemeni issues for chorus and orchestra, a cantata, and songs. Pártos in 1952 awarded the art prize of the UNESCO and 1954 with the Israel Prize.
