The Odyssey Arena, and The Odyssey is a multi-purpose arena in Belfast, United Kingdom. The arena serves as both a hockey rink as well as a concert hall as well as for other sports events.

History

The Odyssey Arena was opened after two years of construction in 2001. In the very first year of its existence the box world championships were held in the arena. Primary user of the arena are the Belfast Giants of the Elite Ice Hockey League, which discharge their home games since its opening at the Odyssey Arena. Other sporting events that take place in the arena, among other events organized by World Wrestling Entertainment. After the O2 in Dublin is the Odyssey Arena, the largest indoor arena in Ireland, and the largest in Northern Ireland. It is also the main concert venue in Northern Ireland, occur regularly in the well-known bands and musicians from around the world.

In October 2009 it was announced that the Odyssey Arena should be expanded to include two hotels, 800 apartments, as well as new parking garages. The conversion costs are estimated at £ 100 million.

On November 6, 2011 was the Odyssey Arena hosted the MTV Europe Music Awards 2011.
