Oekingen

Oekingen is a municipality in the district water office of the canton of Solothurn in Switzerland.

Geography

Oekingen is located at 450 m above sea level. M., 6 km east-southeast of Canton main town of Solothurn (air line). The village stretches along the canalized Ösch from 1971, on the eastern edge of the broad alluvial plain of the river Emme, in southern Solothurn Plateau.

The area of ​​2.5 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the groundwater- rich gravel plain in the central water office. The municipality extends from the ground level and the edge of the calibration timber eastward across the stream of Ösch up to the adjacent gently undulating ground moraine, which was formed by glacial Rhône glacier. The Höchi (480 m above sea level. M. ) forms an open plateau, which merges into the vast forest area of the undergrowth to the east. In Buechwald is 490 m above sea level. M. reached the highest elevation of Oekingen. From the municipality surface 1997 12 % came from settlements, 24 % of forest and woody plants and 64% agriculture.

Population

With 771 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Oekingen one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Solothurn. Of the residents 97.4 % are German, 1.2 % and 0.6 % portugiesischsprachig speak French ( as of 2000). The population of Oekingen amounted in 1850 to 273 residents in 1900 to 401 inhabitants. During the 20th century, the population grew slowly but steadily on. Since 1980 (530 inhabitants) an increased population growth was recorded. The settlement area of Oekingen has grown together almost completely with that of war Stetten.

Economy

Oekingen was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the farming and fruit growing and cattle breeding have an important place in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available, including an operation of the computer science and mechanical workshops. In recent decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the regions of Solothurn and Bern.

Traffic

The community is conveniently moderately well developed. It is located on a link road of war Stetten Etziken. The nearest links to the A1 ( Bern- Zurich ) is located around 2 km from the town center. History

The territory of Oekingen was settled very early, which could be demonstrated by the discovery of a flat tomb from the Early Iron Age. The origin of the village is to be found in the time of the first Alemannic settlement around 600 AD. The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1263 under the name Otechingen. Later, the names Othichingen ( 1264 ), Otkingen ( 1274) appeared, Oedkingen ( 1401 ), Oeigkingen (1450 ) and Oeckhingen ( 1730). The name goes back to the Germanic personal name Oticho.

Since the Middle Ages Oekingen was under the rule hold, came up with this in 1466 in the town of Solothurn and the Bailiwick of war Stetten was assigned. Was not until the 1665 Treaty Wyniger on the high justice of Bern Solothurn. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798 ) Oekingen belonged during the Helvetic Republic to the district Biberist and from 1803 to the district Kriegstetten, which was officially renamed in 1988 in the district water office. Oekingen does not have its own church; it belongs to the parish war Stetten.

School

The primary school Oekingen has teamed up since 17 August 2006, with the neighboring communities hold and Kriegstetten Hoek. The high school students attend school in the new senior center OZ13 in Subingen.
