Oekonux

Oekonux is a word combination of " economy " and " GNU / Linux". The Oekonux project was established to investigate the potential that has free software to change the prevailing political and economic structures fundamentally.

History of the Project

On the first " Wizards of OS" conference in July 1999, there was a spontaneous round of discussions on the panel " New Economy? ". Then, a mailing list has been set up with the help of interested could exchange ideas. In addition to the mailing list, a website was created, to be published on the texts.

In April 2001 and November 2002 Oekonux conferences were organized. At the second conference was attended by over a hundred people participated, lasted for three days, the event, many lectures and workshops were offered. The third conference was held in May 2004 in Vienna, and the fourth conference in March 2009 in Manchester.

The project plans to publish an English-language journal entitled Critical Studies in Peer Production.
