Geographical location

Offenau located in the north of the district of Heilbronn in the middle Neckar directly on the Neckar.

Neighboring communities

Neighboring cities Offenaus are ( clockwise from the south): Bad Wimpfen, Bad Rappenau, Gundel home and bathroom Frederick Hall, all of which belong to the district of Heilbronn. With Oedheim and bathroom Frederick Hall Offenau has entered into an Agreed administrative matters.

History

Offenau was first mentioned as an open home in a document of the monastery Lorsch 767. A brine source in Offenau was used under the rule of the Teutonic Knights around since 1560 for medicinal purposes. 1754, the Saline Clemens Hall was founded, which was followed today Altort as workers' settlement and in 1790 the SPA Linde with bathing facilities and park was created. Upon dissolution of the Teutonic Order Offenau, which belonged to Deutschordensballei francs until then was, in 1805 a separate municipality within the Kingdom of Württemberg.

The spa, the village was in the 19th century baths title Bad Offenau and flourished especially after the city in 1879 was a railway station. The spa came after the First World War, to a halt. The saline was closed in 1929. Most Saline buildings were demolished in the 1960s, the last remaining building burned in 1981. The former Saline area is now built over by the new City Hall and the fire station. At the Saline, the Saline area located outside of the former salt warehouse of 1780 is the only reminder.

1939 counted 1038 inhabitants, the end of 1945 there were 1201. During the territorial reform in Baden- Württemberg Offenau should be incorporated into the neighboring town of Bad Frederick Hall in 1973/74, this could turn through intensive advocacy at the then state government, however.

After heavy flood damage in the years 1993, 1995 and 1997, a flood control was built from an elevated 2,100 meters long seawall and four pumping plants on the banks of the Neckar in Offenau between the years 2000 and 2003. The nearly 9 million euro plant was its first test before its official opening in spring 2004.

Offenau was filial community of Duttenberg and belonged to the diocese of Worms. 1438 was given its own parish.

Another member of the council and its chairman is the mayor.

Coat of arms and flag

The blazon of the coat of arms open Auer is: Azure, a orb, about three ( 1:2 ) to each other gerückte silver salt cubes. The municipal flag is yellow-blue.

The coat of arms is performed in this form since 1939 by the Municipality. The orb appeared in municipal seals Offenaus since the beginning of the 20th century; its significance for the place is not clear. 1938, the Württemberg Archives Directorate determines the colors of the coat of arms and beat to distinguish it from similar Coat of three salt cubes before that point to the open Auer salt deposits and saline Clemens Hall. The coat of arms and flag were presented to the congregation by the Interior Ministry of Baden- Württemberg on March 4, 1963.

Structures

  • The Catholic parish church of St. Alban is a baroque building from 1751, built by Franz Häffele. The church has a Baroque high altar of Hollbusch and an equally baroque pulpit. The other items of equipment of the Church ( baptismal font, paintings, figures ) are partly more recent. On the outer wall in an alcove a Pietà.

Regular events

The Kornlupferfest is a special attraction in Offenau. It takes place on the second last weekend in July and is joined by the open Auer in the working group associations organized local clubs. From Saturday to Monday to celebrate the Kornlupfer their tradition festival which conveys the visitor and village- agricultural origin.

Economy and infrastructure

Due to its convenient location, the place has a stable and balanced infrastructure with retailers, crafts, service providers and industry. 1971 Südzucker AG moved in Offenau whose factory for the production of sugar from sugar beet is the most important employer in the church today.

Traffic

Offenau lies on the railway line from Heidelberg to Bad Frederick Hall ( Neckar Valley Railway ). The Federal Highway 27 cuts through the village and is consistently limited to km / h.
