Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages
The Official Languages Commissioner (English Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages, French Commissariat aux langues officielles ) is an agency of the Government of Canada, which is responsible for the enforcement and promotion of the Official Languages Act. Its task is to receive complaints from citizens, to carry out investigations and to pronounce concerning the status of the two official languages recommendations.
The revised in 1988, the Official Languages Act gives the Authority and the Commissioner whose term of office lasts for seven years, three main tasks: to ensure the equality of English and French within the Canadian federal and affected by the law authorities, preservation and development of language communities and ensuring the equality of English and French in Canadian society as a whole.
