Ogoki River

The Ogoki River is a river in Thunder Bay District and Cochrane District in the Canadian province of Ontario.

The river has its source in Lake Wabakimi. It flows in a northeasterly direction through a series of lakes: Whitewater Lake, Whiteclay Lake, the reservoir and the Ogoki Ogoki Lake. In the lower reaches, the river for a distance of 30 km splits into two arms that reunite. In Ogoki the river in the Albany River, which flows to the James Bay opens. The river is 480 km long. In 1943, building the Hydro-Electric Power Commission of Ontario, now Ontario Power Generation, a dam, which derives a large part of the water of the upper Ogoki River to Lake Nipigon and to the Great Lakes since its completion. The purpose of this water construction project was to increase the usable amount of water for the hydroelectric power plant at Niagara Falls below Lake Erie.

The Ogoki River flows through the Wabakimi Provincial Park. It is used for canoeing and fishing.

The Ogoki reservoir north of Lake Nipigon is formed by a dam at Waboose Rapids. The dam has a length of 70 km and covers an area of approximately 150 km ².

For the section of the river below the Ogoki reservoirs on the Ogoki Lake to the splitting up of the river, a Provincial Park is planned.
