Oh Land

Oh Land is the pseudonym of the Danish electropop singer Nanna Oland Fabricius (born 2 May 1985 in Copenhagen) and a nod to her middle name.

Life and work

Nanna Fabricius was the daughter of Bendt Fabricius organists (not to be confused with Bent Fabricius - Bjerre ) and the opera singer Bodil Øland born. Already at the age of 8 she began taking ballet lessons at age 10, she joined the Ballet School of the Royal Danish Ballet and with 15 years she moved to Stockholm to continue her education at the Royal Swedish Ballet. At the age of 18 years Fabricius suffered a severe back injury that made it impossible for her to continue to dance professionally.

She then began to write her own songs and, under the pseudonym to sing Oh Land. In 2007, she hired some of their songs on Myspace.com, where they were discovered by indie label Fake Records. Fake Records undertook Fabricius fauna for the album, which was released in 2008, but was hardly noticed outside their home country Denmark. In 2009, she strove successfully to a number of appearances in the United States, including the South -by -Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas. There, she was spotted by an agent of the record label Epic Records and contracted.

Since then, she released the single Sun of a Gun as well as the EP Oh Land Oh Land and the also -titled album. The album reached # 184 on the Billboard 200 and # 5 on the Danish album charts. Her song White Nights peaked at number 13 of the Danish and place 60 in the German single charts. For the song Sun of A Gun she worked with British producer Dave McCracken, who has also collaborated with Depeche Mode, Beyoncé, Shakira and John Legend. Also involved in the making of the album were Pharrell Williams of NERD and Dan Carey ( Sia, MIA, La Roux ) and Lester Mendez (Shakira, Spice Girls).

With their song Sun of a Gun Oh Land joined the David Letterman Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live! on. Oh Land is the winner of the NewNowNext Awards 2011 at the Brink of Fame Music Artist division and their video for Sun of a Gun was chosen by mtvU for Best Freshman Video. She performed as the opening act for Orchestral Manoeuvres in for Sia and for Katy Perry in the Dark and in July / August 2011.

Oh Land is in their live performances, a drum pad that allows it to play sound samples and the projected depending on their interaction with the device images on balloons. At the front of the device is also a LED screen is mounted, the lights in the rhythm of their movements.

In January 2011, Fabricius moved from Denmark to Vesterbro in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York.

The Music of Oh Land is often compared in the press with the Lykke Li, Goldfrapp and Little Boots. Also comparisons to Lady Gaga are sometimes tried, but not to describe their musical style, but as a nod to their stage show.
