ÅŒhasama, Iwate
Ohasama (Japanese大 迫 町, machi ) was a town in the center of Iwate Prefecture in the northern part of Japan's main island Honshu.
Geography
It was located about 30 km southeast of Morioka, the capital of the prefecture. Ohasama was divided into four districts: the actual Ohasama (大 迫) in the center, Kamegamori (亀 々 森) to the west, Uchikawame (内 川 目) in the north and Sotokawame (外 川 目) in the east.
History
On 1 January 2006, the city of Ohasama was integrated into the city Hanamaki and thus no longer exists as an independent administrative unit.
Attractions
Ohasama is home to the mask dance Hayachine Kagura (早 池 峰 神 楽) was recorded in 2009 by the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Twinning
Ohasama since 1965, the sister city of the Lower Austrian town of Bern village. The student exchange between the Bundesgymnasium and Bundesrealgymnasium Bern village and Ohasama takes place despite the continued incorporation.
