Ohio County (Kentucky)

Ohio County is a county located in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Hartford. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in west-central Kentucky, is located in the north about 40 km from the state of Illinois and has an area of 1546 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Hancock County, Breckinridge County, Grayson County, Butler County, Muhlenberg County, McLean County and Daviess County.

History

Ohio County was formed on December 17, 1798 from portions of Hardin County. It was named after the Ohio River.

According to the census of 2000, there were 22,916 people in Ohio County. Of these, 340 people were living in collective centers, the other residents living in 8,899 households and 6,585 families.
