Ohio University

The Ohio University (OU ) is in contrast to the Ohio State University is a public university located in Athens ( Ohio) with an area of 7.3 km ² and nearly 20,000 students on the main campus. In addition, she has five other facilities in St. Clairsville, Zanesville, Lancaster, Chillicothe and Ironton, where more than 8000 students are studying.

History

1787 was supported by the Continental Congress, the structure of educational institutions due to the settlement of the Northwest territory and a possible state was founded in this area. 1797 chose the Hocking River along withdrawing settlers from Marietta Athens as the location of the later Ohio University, as this place is situated halfway between Chillicothe, Ohio's original capital, and her hometown.

One year after the accession of Ohio to the United States was founded on 18 February 1804, the Ohio University under the name of American Western University. The first three students enrolled but only 1808.
