Ohlstadt is a community in the Upper Bavarian district of Garmisch -Partenkirchen and the seat of the administrative community Ohlstadt with the other member communities Eschenlohe, Großweil and Alps.

Ohlstadt lies in the region becoming rock.

There are the following parts of communes: Ohlstadt, Weichs, Schwaiganger Pömmetsried, Bartlmähmühle. The only district is the district Ohlstadt.

History

In a deed dated 31 July 835, in which a couple named Alprich and Imma and their son Deacon Zotto their property to Auwolfstetin transfer it to the nearby monastery Schlehdorf, the name Ohlstadt for the village under the home garden occurs first written in appearance.

Finds in Weichs in the local area dates back to Celtic times. A settlement can be proved by the finds in the castle Look ( Schauenburger shards ) to the Middle to Late Bronze Age 1700-1250 BC. Ohlstadt is old culture soil, traversed in antiquity also Romans, Teutons and Huns.

Southeast of Ohlstadt rises on a rocky outcrop in the 904 m Veste Look Castle, the old castrum Skoyenburg, as the oldest hill fort of Loisach valley. 1096 Rudolf von Owelstadt was the owner of the castle.

From the reign area around the castle looking at the Hofmarch Ollstadt that the monastery Schlehdorf bought in 1493 and then the lower courts held until 1803 developed. Ohlstadt belonged to the Monastery Schlehdorf. The village was part of the Electorate of Bavaria and formed a closed Hofmark, which was repealed in 1803 with the monastery.

Since the local government reform in 1978, the community Ohlstadt is the seat of an administrative community to which the communities Eschenlohe, Schwaigen and Großweil belong.

  • The painter Friedrich August von Kaulbach lived from 1850 to 1920 in Ohlstadt. His mansion is now a museum and houses the local museum. His tomb is in the church cemetery Ohlstädter.
