Ohr (record label)

Ear was an active 1969-1973 German record label in the distribution of metronomes, which played a pioneering role in the spread of so-called Krautrock. Founders ( together with Peter Meisel ), significant chief and producer, was a music journalist and concert organizer Rolf- Ulrich Kaiser. Some of the major national and international renown German rock bands such as Tangerine Dream, Embryo, Guru Guru and Ash Ra Tempel got their first record deal at the ear. A total of 33 LPs ( including five double LPs ) and twelve 7 -inch singles were released on the Ohr label. From 1973, in Cosmic Couriers (and later again in Cosmic Music ) renamed, more LPs appeared under contract often unclear circumstances under the direction Emperor.

History

In the late 1960s, many large record companies ( major labels ) (for example, EMI saw caused by the exploding rock music market to launch new "progressive" labels for this very special market to life with the label Harvest Records, and Philips Vertigo Records, both 1969). The Metronome label received with ear the chance to market specifically German groups. The Cologne-based music journalist Rolf- Ulrich Kaiser, who had already in 1968, the very successful "International Essen Song Days" co-organized, echoed his here as well as the castle of Waldeck- festival experience gained and contacts with artists previously returned and published after the start of production in late 1969 in rapid consequence of a series of outstanding records, their artistic value was often not recognized until years or decades later. Chief designer of the new underground labels was the Mainz graphic artist Reinhard hip, the emperor also knew since the Burg Waldeck Festivals; as a sound engineer Dieter Dierks was first and then committed the legendary Conny Plank.

Many of the original editions of the ear - LPs are now among collectors to rare pieces.
