Ohrid Literary School

The School of Ohrid was next to the school of Preslav and that of Tarnovo during centuries one of the intellectual centers of the Bulgarian cultural area.

History

The establishment of the School of Ohrid was at 893 by Kliment of Ohrid at the behest of the Bulgarian Tsar Boris I.. , There was a close connection with the Christianization of the Bulgarians 863 and the introduction of the Old Church Slavonic as the liturgical language and the state language in the Bulgarian Kingdom. The establishment of the Archdiocese of Ohrid and the granting of its large degree of autonomy in the reorganization of the diocese in 1018 was conducive to this development.
