OHSAS 18001

OHSAS 18001 ( Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series) is so far only in the UK and Poland a norm, but is already used in many countries as a basis for certification management systems for occupational health and safety (AMS).

The structure of OHSAS 18001 is closely aligned with the standards ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. Consequently, the standard is suitable for use as part of an integrated management system.

BS OHSAS 18001 is based on the British Standard BS 8800:1996. There is an ongoing debate as to whether this standard should be adopted as international standard. Work is a standard ISO 45001 as a possible successor to the BS OHSAS 18001.

In fact, look at today many companies exposed to pressure from their customers to OHSAS 18001 (often for environmental management and ISO 14001 together with ISO 50001 for energy management ) to be certified, although the standard is not an international standard. In order for these customers to formally prove that their suppliers are socially responsible businesses.

In the standard there is a separate section for " participation and consultation". In Germany take part in the certification audit, the employee representatives who will need one suitable training. With regard to the participation of workers' representatives to audit the confidentiality of the audit must submit the information and participation rights of employee representation.

In Germany, companies can have their employee health and safety management system certified by accredited by the German Accreditation Body firms according to OHSAS 18001.

Is available in English the extensive certification scheme for OHSAS 18001 Dutch SCCM. The scheme of Stichting Coördinatie Certificatie milieu (which is a Foundation for the coordination of the certification of environmental management systems ) is a detailed description of the procedure in a certification audit for OHSAS 18001. It also includes a sample letter is to inform the employees' representatives in advance about upcoming audits. You can then enter before the audit also provides information to the employer and / or the certification and thus co-determine the themes of the audits.
