Oi Polloi

Oi Polloi is a Scottish anarcho- punk band from Edinburgh, which was founded in 1981. It is regarded as one of the most important bands that direction.

The name is a pun on the English from the Greek hoi polloi turn borrowed ( literally, " many", but also " the masses", " The common people "). " Oi! " Is a punk-rock variety, the end of the 1970s emerged in Britain in the youth of the working class. Oi Polloi played at the beginning of their careers anthemic Oi! Band History

In 2003 they released their first single ( Carson? ) In Scots Gaelic. Since then, they sing in that language and use it for daily conversation, because they consider it as important for the preservation of these (and other) endangered languages. The singer is also involved in the Gaelic television.

The band had several incarnations since its inception in the impressive amount of over fifty different members.

Texts / setting

Oi Polloi, a radical environmental policy with the motto "No compromise in defense of our earth " ( German: No compromise in defense of our earth). They support actions in defense of animal rights (some band members are vegans, other vegetarians) and call in their texts resistance against racism ( "apartheid Stinx " ), homophobia ( "When two men kiss" ), fascism ( "Nazi scum " ) and imperialism ( " Americans out") on. In some songs they address neo-paganism ( " Free the Henge ", " Clachan Chalanais "). Also, the humor is not just how to set to music a recipe to prepare a vegan meal ( " anarcho- pie "). shows. As an opponent of capitalism Oi Polloi represented the DIY philosophy and marketing their products themselves or through friendly small independent labels.
