Ojos Azules

Ojos Azules (Spanish Blue Eyes ) is a cat breed that is based on a mutation. While blue eyes are bound to the white coat color or the Siamzeichnung at the well-known cat breeds, the mutation of the Ojos Azules may come together with different coat colors.

Appearance

The Ojos Azules is similar to the appearance of an ordinary house cat. Your typical feature is the deep blue eyes. This may come as some single white spots at the ends of the body ( tail tip, nose).

History

The Ojos Azules are all descended from a single domestic cat Cornflower, which was discovered in New Mexico in 1984. Cornflower was a tortoiseshell cat with blue eyes. It was found that the blue eye color was dominant trait. In the early 1990s there were very few ( about ten ) Ojos Azules. The breed was approved in 1992 by TICA for registration.

The Ojos gene as Semiletalfaktor

While cats that carry the Ojos gene heterozygotes are healthy, are kittens who carry the gene homozygous stillborn. You have a very white coat and have malformations of the skull and tail on. Therefore, should never be paired together two winners of the Ojos gene.
