Okayama Castle

The Okayama Castle (Japanese冈山 城, Okayama - jo ) is a castle in the city of Okayama in Japan.

Because of their black color it is as crow Castle (鸟 城, ujo ) known.

History

The origins of the castle go back Okayama by the year 1346. Ukita Hideie (宇 喜 多 秀 家; 1573-1655 ), son of Naoie (宇 喜 多 直 家; 1529-1581 ) and close vassal of Toyotomi Hideyoshi moved to its behest of the castle of his father in 1590 at the eastern edge of Okayama. After years of great building activity in 1597, the castle was completed. The fief was equipped with large 574,000 koku, but then Hideie belonged to the losers in the battle of Sekigahara.

The castle tower is supposed to be a replica of the castle tower of the castle of Azuchi. The original building was destroyed in the Second World War, when the city in the night of 28 was bombed on June 29, 1945 by 138 B-29. The castle tower, however, was constructed with a concrete core back in 1966.

Zur Burg is one of the great well-known change Koraku -en Garden.
