The University of Okayama (Japanese冈山 大学, Okayama daigaku; . Engl Okayama University) is a national university in Japan. The main campus is located in Tsushima - Naka, Kita- ku, Okayama, Okayama Prefecture.

History

The origin of the university was the medical school (医学 馆, Igakkan ), founded by the Okayama - Han 1870. In 1880 she became the prefectural Medical School, Okayama. In 1888 she became the Medical Department of the State Third Higher Secondary School (第三 高等 中 学校 医学 部, Dai- san Kōtō chūgakkō igakubu ). 1901 she became the Medical Technical College Okayama (冈山 医学 専 门 学校), 1922 then to the Medical University of Okayama (冈山 医科大学, Okayama ika daigaku ).

The Okayama University was founded in 1949 by the merger of five schools in Okayama. The five were: the Medical School Okayama, the Sixth High School (第六 高等学校, Dai- roku Kōtō Gakko, founded in 1900 ), the Normal School Okayama (冈山 师范学校, Okayama shihan Gakko, founded in 1874 ), the Youth Normal School Okayama ( 冈山 青年 师范学校, Okayama his shihan Gakko, founded in 1922 ) and the agricultural Technical School Okayama (冈山 农业 専 门 学校, Okayama nōgyō Semmon Gakko, founded in 1946 ).

The new campus Tsushima was a former military base of the Imperial Japanese Army. The base was occupied by the army of the British Commonwealth of Nations until 1947. After the departure of the army lived learners of the Sixth High School in the barracks, because the school lost the school building in the Pacific War. Finally, the high school has received the former base as a campus.
