Okhotsk Subprefecture
Okhotsk (pronounced similar to Okhotsk, Japaneseオホーツク 総合 振興 局, Ohotsuku - sogo - Shinko - kyoku ) is a sub-prefecture of Hokkaido Prefecture. It has an area of 10,690.09 km ² and a population of 329 446 (as of July 31, 2004).
It is bordered on the north by the Sea of Okhotsk ( Ohotsuku -kai ).
History
The administrative unit was (网 走 支 庁, Abashiri shicho ) was established in 1897 as a sub-prefecture of Abashiri.
In the reorganization of Hokkaidō April 1, 2010 renamed sub-prefecture was Okhotsk.

Reclassifications
- On 1 October 2005, the cities Ikutahara, Engaru, Maruseppu and the village of Shirataki from the district Mombetsu merged to form the new city Engaru.
- On 5 March 2006, the city of Kitami, the cities Tanno, Rubeshibe and Tokoro from the district Tokoro merged to form the new city of Kitami.
- On 31 March 2006, the city and the village Memanbetsu Higashimokoto from the district Abashiri merged to form the new city Ōzora.
Infrastructure
The sub-prefecture has two airports: the airport in Mombetsu Mombetsu and Memanbetsu airport in Ōzora, which was formed in 2006 from Memanbetsu.
